Gas Transmission Pipeline Monitoring

Intrisically-Safe Pipeline Monitor

gas transmission pipeline monitoring, gas pipeline capacityVarious technologies and strategies have been implemented for monitoring pipelines, from physically walking the lines to satellite surveillance. The most common technology for detecting pipeline problems like leakage is Computational Pipeline Monitoring or CPM. CPM takes information related to pressures, flows, and temperatures to estimate the hydraulic behavior of the product being transported. Once the estimation is completed, the results are compared to other field references to detect the presence of an anomaly or unexpected situation, which may be related to a leak.

Management of the gas pipeline system is a sophisticated 24-hour operation involving constant monitoring through supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems. Gas is transmitted at high pressure, around 60-80 bar, from central facilities and then at remotely located above ground installations where its pressure is reduced for regional distribution points and commercial customers.

Raveon provides wireless / radio-based pipeline monitoring solutions that are currently used to manage and/or monitor some of the largest North-American ppeline networks such as the one of Dominion East Ohio a natural gas distributor - with more than 1,000 installed data radios, relaying gas temperature and gas pressure.

Raveon's radios are some of the most secure and reliable in the industry, providing AES128 encryption and an MTBF of 50,000 hours with optional, rechargeable battery back-up lasting for up-to 60 hours at update rates of 30 seconds.

Together with its partners Raveon can provide intrisically safe / Class II Div. 1 pipeline monitors to measure gas consistency and gas pressure.

radio gatewayPipeline monitors connected by Raveon's data radios can be managed via the City-Wide to Global-Wide Radio Network (CIGORN) open source gateway. CIGORN is optimized for telemetry, SCADA, mobile data, RTK, meter-reading, utility-monitoring. The is easy to manage, simple to deploy, data centric, and extremly bandwidth efficient.  It will dynamically assign wireless bandwidth to operate even when 100% of the subscriber devices need to communicate.
